imageThe fashion for this year’s prom is all about color and detail for the dresses and is about simplicity for hair. Prom is one of the biggest nights of your life—and your hair should reflect partly who you are and the hottest of trends for the season.

There’s a whole lot more to consider when choosing a style for your hair for prom than meets the eye—yes, it’s important to have a prom hairstyle that flatters your facial features and coordinates with your prom dress but you also want something that will look good all night long throughout all the celebrating.

Prom Hair Styles

imageOne of the hottest hairstyles for 2007 prom is wavy hair—if you are already blessed with natural wavy hair, then you are in luck—transform your locks in to soft waves that fall gently around you. This style, worn down with light or no bangs and falling below the shoulders is perfect for strapless prom dresses. Even if you have straight hair, you can use large rollers or a large curling iron to make big curls in your hair—spray them with a gentle hold hair spray and pull the waves apart with your fingers but do not brush them out.

Short hair is sassy and back in style—short hair can be a lot of fun for a party as long as it’s styled and set. It’s important to remember that if you do have a short hair style for prom that your hair isn’t going to be the centerpiece—you’ll want to add a little extra flair to your makeup and jewelry accessories to complement your style.

Up-dos are still a classic way to have a gorgeous style for your 2007 prom night. A chignon or French twist positioned on your head will look very sleek and sexy. The blown out look, with dangling curls and stray hairs is out—keep all your hair swept up into a classic up-do for a hot and elegant look for prom.

Another style back in fashion for this year’s prom is ponytails. A classic ponytail, or one that is slightly offset on the back of your head that is accessorized with hairpins and sparkling bands is hot this season for prom. Bangs or no bangs—your choice. If you are choosing an offset ponytail, try side sweeping bangs and keeping the look softer and more gentle. Curling your hair into soft waves and then putting in a ponytail is a surefire style for this year’s prom princesses. Keep the stray hairs out of the way and in place with some pomade or gel to keep fly-aways at bay.

For the gentlemen of the evening—sassy and fun short hair is still great. Adding a few spikes for pizzazz is alright—but keep the eccentric colors at bay. It’s not cool to match your hair color with your cummerbund. For the men with longer locks, try pulling them back to keep the eyes focused on your tux instead of your hair. If you want your hair to be the center, make sure it’s not scruffy or scraggly—it should be clean, freshly trimmed and well groomed for your big prom night.

The ladies and gentlemen of the class of 2007 have a lot of hot styles to choose from for their big night this year. In dresses and tuxes and suits—the choices and styles are endless. Color is in for clothing but hair remains classic and subtle this year with elegant up-dos and soft waves. The focus for this year is on the clothes instead of accessories and hair—keeping the style elegant and simple is what is really hot for this year’s graduating class at prom.
